Loving God,

As we step into the month of June, dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we open our hearts to your infinite love and compassion. We also acknowledge National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month.

We thank you for the rich cultures of Indigenous Peoples. Guide us in our journey of reconciliation, respect, and understanding. May we walk together in truth and healing through learning about and celebrating Indigenous ways of life.

We also pray for our 2SLGBTQ+ students, staff, and families. We affirm that each person is wonderfully made in your image, and you make no mistakes. May they always know their profound dignity and feel your unconditional love. Help us build a truly welcoming Catholic school community where all belong and are celebrated.

Grant us grace to see your divine image in every person, fostering love, compassion and acceptance for all.

Message From The Principal

Hello Wonderful Families,

As June arrives, it brings a mix of emotions for me. This will be my last formal monthly update for you, as I will be heading to Our Lady of Wisdom School next school year. Leaving Corpus Christi is truly bittersweet as it has been an absolute joy to serve as the principal here the last 2.5 years. I am incredibly proud of how our school has grown, both in our student numbers and in our vibrant community spirit. This is such a positive, caring, and faith-filled place to be, and I am deeply grateful for your support and partnership.

While change is ahead, our focus right now is on celebrating an incredible year together! June is always a busy and exciting month. Please keep a close eye on our school calendar so you don’t miss out on any of the fun, including our year-end BBQ on June 23rd, and our year-end liturgy on June 24th, where I look forward to celebrating with many of you in person.

Please know that Corpus Christi will always hold a special place in my heart. I know this amazing community will continue to be a place of compassion and dynamic learning, where every single student feels welcome, valued, and celebrated.

Wishing a very Happy upcoming Father’s Day to all of the dads and father figures in our community!

We Are Called to Be Living Bridges

As the school year ends, we remember that each of us is called to be the bridge—to bring peace, connection, and love to those around us. This month, we reflect on the ways in which we can carry the spirit of unity and kindness into the summer and beyond. Whether through acts of service, moments of compassion, or simply being present for others, we are all called to be bridges that connect hearts and communities. As we prepare for the summer, we are reminded that the work of building bridges continues in every season of life.

Thank You

• to all who joined us for our annual family Muffin Mixer and classroom open house during Catholic Education Week! It was lovely to see everyone chatting and catching up!

• to all the parents who joined classes on the many field trips we’ve been taking - Baxter Conservation Centre, Science & Tech museum, Immaculata Musical, MacSkimming Outdoor Centre, Seniors Residences, and more. These trips can happen because of you!

• to those who take time to send cards, emails, or to share in person kind words and positive feedback to their child’s educators. This goes a long way in building such a caring school community.

• to the grade 3 & 6 families for emphasizing the importance of the EQAO assessment and ensuring their children were rested and ready to show what they’ve learned! Extra thanks to the families who brought in special treats to mark the completion!

• to the parents who have volunteered for our first few parking events, including PWHL games, and the GGGS!! Huge successes because of you!

• to the parents who come in to read, volunteer and help out in classes.

• to the parents who help out on Mondays organizing the pizza by class and delivering it hot and fresh on time for lunch. It’s our students' favourite day!

• to the families who join us in prayer at our liturgies and masses. Praying and reflecting in community is always so powerful.

Corpus Christi Centennial Celebrations - Huge Success!

Thank you to all who dropped in to one or all of our events. It was a beautiful week of celebrations, culminating in a lovely mass at Blessed Sacrament. Just amazing! Extra shout out to the Parent Council who funded all of the 100th Anniversary T-shirts that students and staff received.

Honouring the Sacred Heart, National Indigenous History Month & Pride Month

As we enter June, we reflect on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a beautiful symbol of unconditional love and compassion. This foundation guides our school’s shared values of love, togetherness, respect, and dignity, which we know resonate deeply across all faiths and families in our community.

Throughout the month, we will honour National Indigenous History Month by continuing to learn and bring voice to the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, continuing our shared journey toward truth and reconciliation.

In keeping with our commitment to belonging, and in alignment with the Ottawa Catholic School Board of Trustees, along with all OCSB schools, we raised the Progressive Pride Flag at the end of day on Friday, May 29th. Guided by the Ontario Ministry of Education through our Health and Fully Alive program, our focus will be on inclusion and upholding the unique dignity of every individual, ensuring all students and staff feel safe and valued just as they are as we are ALL wonderfully made.

We are truly blessed to partner with your families. Thank you for walking with us to ensure every child feels cherished and supported in our community.

Ontario Day - June 1

Ontario Day is a new yearly celebration on June 1st to honour the heritage, history, and diverse culture of Canada’s most populous province. It provides an opportunity for students and families to celebrate Ontario's beautiful natural landscapes, rich traditions, and vibrant communities. The day encourages everyone living in the province to take pride in the unique symbols and achievements that make Ontario a wonderful place to call home.

Jays Care Program

Thanks to the dedication of Mr. McConnery, Ms. Connolly, Ms. Limbardi, Ms. Day, Mrs. J, and Ms. Kathleen, our Tuesday Baseball sessions have been so successful! Skills are getting better, and the joyous participation is evident! We are looking for any used kids baseball mitts, as the interest is growing. If you have any to donate, we’d be glad to take them off your hands!

Indigenous Outdoor Learning Day - June 4

We are excited to welcome two of our amazing Indigenous community partners, Uncle Inini and Auntie Steph to Corpus Christi on June 4th! They will be leading a Smudge for staff before school in the morning in the new Outdoor Learning Space. Then each class will spend a block outside to listen and learn from Uncle Inini and Auntie Steph. They will be presenting on the 4 Sacred Medicines, animal teachings, and land-based teachings.

Pop-Up Popcorn Days - Thursday, June 4th & Friday, June 12th

We will celebrate the last few weeks of school by having a popcorn treat on Thursday, June 4th and Friday, June 12th. If you’d like your child to participate, please send in cash. $2/bag. Thanks!

Not returning to Corpus Christi next year?

Please let the office know if your child (those currently in JK-grade 5) is not returning in September by filling out this FORM.
If your child is returning, no communication is necessary.

Upcoming PD Day

PD Day on Friday, June 5th. There is NO school on this day! Educators will be focused on Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting.

Merry Derry Ice Cream Fundraiser

We are partnering again with The Merry Dairy for a delicious end-of-year fundraiser. For every pint of ice cream purchased, $2 will go directly back to our school to help fund student resources and activities.

How to Order: Visit the Corpus Christi Merry Dairy Shop to place your order.

Pint Pick Up: Pickup for free at the BBQ or from the Merry Derry store, or it's shipped for free if the order is over $50.

Deadline to Order: All orders must be submitted by Monday, June 22nd.

Year End RAFFLE

We’ve got such a generous community, with local vendors and families donating great prizes for our school council’s year-end BBQ raffle. In the next couple of weeks, raffle tickets will be available to purchase via School Cash-Online, or families can purchase by cash or tap at the BBQ. Tickets will be $2 each or 3 for $5. Draw for the prizes will happen at the end of the BBQ. Attendance at the BBQ is not necessary to claim the prizes.

Raffle Donations Needed: If you own a local business, have connections to vendors, or have a product or service you would be willing to donate, please let us know, or drop it off to the school. Every donation helps make the event even more exciting for the kids and families!

Daily Hygiene for Students

With the warmer weather here, our building can get quite hot, and without air conditioning throughout most of the school and gym, the classrooms warm up quickly. Between active recesses, phys-ed, and the heat inside the school, body odor has become a challenge. We want to ensure all students feel comfortable and confident, and that our classrooms remain pleasant spaces to learn.

We kindly ask for your help at home in reinforcing these daily hygiene routines with your children:

• Daily Washing: A daily shower or bath with soap is essential to wash away sweat and bacteria.

• Clean Clothes: Please ensure students wear fresh clothes each morning. Rewearing shirts or hoodies without washing them locks in sweat and significantly multiplies odors, especially in a warm building.

• Deodorant: Applying deodorant each morning is highly recommended for our grade 5&6 students. You may also want to send a stick deodorant (no aerosol sprays, please) in their backpack for a quick touch-up after recess or phys-ed class.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school environment comfortable and healthy for everyone.

Moving On…

We are wishing our Gr. 6 students farewell this month as they spend their last few weeks at Corpus Christi. We look forward to celebrating them at their leave-taking ceremony on June 19th. We wish them the very best as they move onto other schools, in particular, Immaculata High School.

Farewell and Welcome - Staff changes for 2026-27

As we head off for summer break, we’ll be saying goodbye to a few wonderful staff members, and we’ll also be welcoming some new educators to the Corpus Christi team.

Mrs. Filoso is retiring!! After 30+ years of teaching, most of which within these walls of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Filoso is beginning her next adventure. She’s looking forward to traveling, as well as playing lots of golf, pickleball and soccer! Don’t worry, she’ll be back to supply teach at Corpus once in a while. 

Thank you to Mrs. Giles, M. Mosebye, Ms. Day, Mrs. J, and Ms. Jeanne for all they did to teach and support our students. We wish them well in their next journey!! Their new schools are so lucky to have them!

We’re thrilled for Ms. Connolly as she will be beginning her next professional journey as Vice-Principal at Prince of Peace school.

A big Corpus Christi welcome to Ms. Hollander, returning to us from St. Anthony, who will be joining the primary teaching team in September; and from St. Elizabeth, Mme Valerie who will be joining our FSL team.

There is still some support staff that we’ll be hiring over the summer. So stay tuned!

Term 2 Reports via Parent Portal - June 24, 2026

Term 2 Report Cards (grades 1-6), and Kindergarten Communication of Learning will be accessible via the Parent Portal at 5pm on Wednesday, June 24th. (Video: How to Locate Report Card on Parent Portal). If you need help, please follow these detailed instructions.

2026-2027 School Year Info

Students in grade 1-6 will start school on Tuesday, September 1st, at 9:15am. The first day for both JKs and SKs looks different, and more information will be sent to those families at the end of June and again at the end of August.

The office will be closed for the summer as of July 27th and will reopen the week of August 24th from 9:00am-3:00pm. Emails will not be monitored over the summer break.

Please also take time to review OCSB Code of Conduct with your child(ren) before returning to school in September. More information can also be found through our school and board website. It’s important that there is an understanding of our school and board expectations regarding safe, inclusive, and accepting schools. Thank you

Reminders

Ottawa Public Health - Vaccines Up to Date?

To ensure your child can attend school without interruption next school year, please ensure their immunization records are up-to-date with Ottawa Public Health, as incomplete records may lead to suspension.

Bus Transportations for the 2026-27 School Year

Each spring, parents/caregivers who do NOT intend to utilize OSTA's transportation services for the following school year are asked to formally opt-out. This proactive approach allows OSTA to optimize transportation routing and loading, enhancing the planning and delivery of services.

Parents/caregivers who will not require school bus transportation for their eligible child(ren) are asked to complete an electronic opt-out form. This form confirms that a seat will not be needed.
